April’s numbers are on the books, so it’s time to update our asset class scoreboard for the first four months of 2012. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been pretty for managed futures, which currently stands as the only asset class posting a loss so far this year (Disclaimer: past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results). US stocks and world stocks have cooled somewhat since our last look, while US real estate and bonds have moved up on the list. While it hasn’t been a shining start for our favorite asset class this year, we take comfort knowing that four months does not make a year, and one year does not make an asset class profile.

Managed Futures = Newedge CTA Index, Cash = 13 wk T-Bill rate,
Bonds = Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (BND), Hedge Funds = DJCS Core Hedge Fund Index
Commodities = iShares GSCI ETF (GSC), Real Estate = iShares DJ Real Estate ETF (IYR)
World Stocks = MCSI World Index (ex USA), US Stocks = S&P 500
