Weekend Reads

Another round of not-so-great, but not-so-bad economic news later, and stocks’ slow crawl upward continues. The S&P 500 has breached its all-time closing high (although it hasn’t yet bested the all-time intra-day high), but the big market story this week was the USDA report that sent corn on a limit down move, and the rest of the grains plummeting alongside it. Volatility certainly came roaring back for those markets, but the wait for higher volatility elsewhere continues. For now, spring weather has finally arrived (for those of us in Chicago, at least) so we’ll be enjoying the sunshine this weekend, along with our weekend reads:

  • Jamie Dimon just can’t catch a break; JP Morgan now the subject of multiple federal probes (NYT Dealbook)
  • An interview with Man AHL’s Tim Wong (Futures Industry)
  • Data visualization of the week: the US record of drone strikes (Pitch Interactive)
  • The people lobbying to prevent a quicker, simpler tax system (ProPublica)
  • A multi-million dollar company with hundreds of employees… and no bosses (Businessweek)
  • Investors pile into the housing market… as landlords. What could go wrong? (Yahoo! Finance)

And just for fun…

  • Could the Game of Thrones ice wall survive in the real world? (Wired)
