Weekend Reads

The crisis in Cyprus may have brought Euro worries back to the headlines, but the Most Anticipated Pullback Ever has yet to materialize, and the Most Hated Bull Market Ever stays alive for another week. Nevertheless, several markets took a pause from recent trends this week: US stock indices, the Euro, the Yen, Gold, and others. In most cases, it wasn’t enough to call it a reversal, but there will be plenty of 2nd screens watching for signs that this hiccup will turn into one… everyone’s 1st screens tuned to college basketball, of course. And if you’re looking for some good reads to fill your 3rd screen, or you just aren’t much of a college basketball fan, here’s what we’re reading headed into the weekend:

  • The rise of the mini-flash crash (CNN Money)
  • Is Texas really preparing to hoard gold? (Yahoo Finance)
  • The biggest winner in the housing rebound? Plywood (Wall St. Journal)
  • Coke vs Pepsi, Gates vs Jobs… The 50 greatest business rivalries ever (CNN Money)
  • The average investor is really, really bad at investing (Mebane Faber Research)
  • How technology is turning modern kids into the touch screen generation (The Atlantic)
  • How underdogs can even the odds: refuse to play by the “rules” (New Yorker)

And just for fun

  • Figure out what you love, and then pursue it half-heartedly in your spare time (The Onion)
